UE Megablast vs. Megaboom 3: What Are the Differences?
After weeks of rigorous testing, I have concluded that the UE Megaboom 3 is a triumph in portable speakers. Although they may seem similar upon first inspection, when looking at the sound quality and battery life coupled with its sleek design – it becomes clear why this was my favored choice.
The higher volume capabilities were impressive on the Megablast, but certain flaws prevented it from reaching greater heights than its counterpart. However, to fully comprehend which reigns supreme, one must compare them based on audio output performance, visual appearance, power source availability and software functionalities for an informed decision-making experience.
Sound
Megaboom 3 and Megablast are incredibly similar, with the latter being a slight cut above due to its drivers and sound quality. The former has two 50mm, active drivers for omnidirectional audio that come out clear and crisp at lower volumes. However, the bass can be overbearing when cranked up past 75%. Still, this won’t stop it from providing delightful music throughout any room!
With a 55mm plus 5mm edge in active drivers, the Megablast delivers a bigger sound with richer bass and louder volume. Both omnidirectional speakers have similar quality up to 50% of the full blast power – but at 85%, what was 100% on its competitor is just getting started!
For maximal booming tunes, opt for WiFi connectivity over Bluetooth compression; this way, you can experience improved clarity and unbeatable control. Put simply: it has to be Megablast!
Design
Get ready to blast off with the Megaboom 3. This modern design is sure to turn heads, boasting a two-tone mesh exterior in six colors, such as Lagoon Blue and Sunset Red (and more coming soon!).
Not only does it look great – at 8.9 inches tall and 2.04 lbs heavy – but you can use its “Magic Button” for convenient music control; one press pauses your song, another skip’s it or hold it down for an Apple Music playlist! No matter which way you slice it, Megaboom 3 will get any party started right!
Upgrade your audio experience with Megablast, the heavyweight speaker that doesn’t lack features. You can customize settings to fit your individual sound preferences using volume buttons or use Alexa for easy adjustments – then wirelessly charge it up on UE’s charging base!
Even better? It floats so you can take a dip without worrying about damage from water exposure. Get ready for an immersive listening session like no other – we guarantee it’ll be worth every penny of its $40 price tag and more!
The Megablast may not be your number-one choice if you’re looking for a speaker that floats in the water. With an unappealing rubber strip running down its center and limited color options, it’s no surprise why users are opting instead to go with Megaboom 3, which offers more exciting features and intriguing visuals.
Power
When it comes to battery life, Megaboom 3 and Megablast both excel. With Ultimate Ears promising 20-hour battery life for the former and 16 hours for the latter, my real-world experience showed less than half of those numbers at medium volumes (10 & 8 hours, respectively).
However, even cranked up to 85% volume, you’re still looking at healthy lifespans of 5 & 4 hours before needing a recharge via wireless charging base – more than enough time in most cases!
The Megaboom 3 is the clear winner when it comes to battery life. It can keep on playing your favorite tunes for hours and won’t require charging as often compared to its rival with Alexa support.
Plus, both of these speakers are compatible with a wireless charger base – so you don’t have to worry about plugging them in before every use!
Software
With Megaboom 3 and Megablast neck-and-neck in sound quality, the Boom app is your guide to making up your mind. On one side, it can give you a turn-on when battery life runs low with four customizable equalizers.
Plus, add Apple Music playlists! But if that’s not enough, you could go party mode by pairing over 150 UE speakers via Party Up – just watch out for the occasional music dropouts.
The Megablast packs a punch with its impressive range, Bluetooth compatibility and Alexa connectivity. Whether you have a big party or are spending time at home, you have full control of your music thanks to the Magic Button feature; hold it for two seconds and start streaming your preset Apple Music playlist without skipping a beat!
Don’t want Alexa around? You can easily disable her by holding both Bluetooth & volume-down buttons simultaneously
Megablast boasts superior sound quality and convenience over Alexa. It offers two options for audio connection – WiFi or Bluetooth – with the former delivering uncompressed music with no distortion risk from incoming calls and access to Spotify streaming capabilities.
Furthermore, Megablast’s mics are far more sensitive than those found in Amazon devices; there’s no need to constantly repeat commands because it will hear you regardless of volume up to 50%.
The Megablast and the Megaboom 3 are two great speakers that have both similarities and differences. The Bluetooth range of the former is slightly greater than the latter, with an impressive 15-20 extra feet!
However, when it comes to pairing other devices, one can only pair a single speaker if opting for Megablast but 150 if choosing its counterpart. Connecting over Bluetooth has never been entirely hassle-free, so it may not be an appealing option in reality. Companion apps use is easy, and while they share features such as WiFi playback, you won’t find powering up from within these apps on either device – something unique solely to the Alexa support offered by MegaBlast.
Conclusion
It was a close call between Megablast and Megaboom 3, but in the end, the design made all the difference. The sleek aesthetics of Megaboom 3 gave it an edge over its competition – from convenient charging to making use of its Magic Button feature, this model is clearly superior for sound lovers everywhere!
