Heyday Speaker: A Candid Review
At techxworks, we are accustomed to conducting side-by-side testing and reviews for products with an immediate competitor. However, sometimes a product does not have an obvious nemesis – as is the case of the Heyday Round Strap Bluetooth Speaker.
After a thorough evaluation of this budget device, our verdict deems it average; but when accounting for its price point (MSRP under $30), it can be considered decent value overall. Nevertheless, suppose one has their heart set on purchasing in that cost bracket. In that case, they may wish to consider Altec Lansing’s Baby Boom XL, which comes out ahead regarding sound quality, durability and worthiness for investment.
Sound
The Heyday is a unique speaker, providing exceptional volume for its price range. It offers an upgrade from the average budget speakers and can easily fill medium-sized rooms with sound – ideal for those who have previously listened to music through their phones or other low-powered devices.
However, at increased volumes above 70%, sound quality suffers, making it less suitable for outdoor use compared to premium JBLs, Bose audio equipment or Ultimate Ears products.
This device tremendously amplifies bass sounds. However, higher pitches may be somewhat distorted with a hint of static. Additionally, when listening to talk radio or podcasts, the voices can appear dull and lack crispness in their delivery.
Design
The heyday round strap is a stylish and unique device with no visible logos. It boasts an excellent design aesthetic and a comfortable grip due to its silicone material. The sleek shape of the speaker makes it perfect for blending into any bookshelf or entertainment center; however, removing the strap to access power and Bluetooth pairing buttons was unnecessary as both worked perfectly without doing so.
This waterproof product from Heyday is a must-have item, with an IPX7 rating to boot. The attractive strap opens up to reveal the charging port and closes firmly for further protection against water damage – who doesn’t want their speaker fully prepped?
Available in sleek black, white and olive green colors via Target’s website (and various used market hues are available, too!), this trendy device will be sure to spruce any environment!
Durability
The Heyday round strap Bluetooth speaker is built to last. Thanks to its IPX7 waterproof rating, it can remain submerged in up to one meter of water for half an hour with no damage. Additionally, the silicone exterior defends against scratches and dents while absorbing shocks if dropped at a reasonable height (which we tested up to 4 feet – caution advised).
Similarly, its frame has been constructed without fragile components, rendering this portable accessory remarkably resilient in any environment you bring it into!
Heyday is a Target brand offering buyers peace of mind with its one-year warranty. Outstanding durability complements the budget-friendly price, ensuring that this product withstands any challenges presented – waterproofing tests and dent-proof design are just two examples.
We strongly believe in Heyday’s promise of quality due to the trustworthiness and lack thereof issues reported thus far, awarding them an excellent score for such attributes.
Power
The heyday speaker offers reliable performance, with a battery life that lives up to its 8-hour rating. Our testing showed it could last 6+ hours at normal listening volumes – an impressive result for the price point. Recharging is relatively swift, too; simply plug in and wait around 3-4 hours for a full charge cycle!
Features & User Experience
The innovative strap effectively keeps the USB port and buttons of Heyday’s speaker waterproof while providing a visually-captivating addition. Additionally, connection to Bluetooth was effortless during our tests; moreover, we discovered that its advertised 33 feet Bluetooth range exceeded expectations with a powerful signal at significantly greater distances.
Furthermore, for those who prefer quieter notifications when powering their device on/off – unlike many other portable speakers that have loud or annoying start-up sounds played at high volume – Heyday delivers this subtlety through its soothing tune upon power up and shut down.
The Heyday Speaker is a robust product boasting versatile sound quality and stylish design. It may not be “portable” enough to slide into your gym bag or purse, but its size makes it perfect for placement on a computer desk or bathroom counter instead.
Suppose you’re looking for true wireless stereo capabilities. In that case, two of these speakers can easily be paired together – though we cannot vouch firsthand as only one device was tested in our review process. This sub-$30 speaker offers reliable value with great sound quality and easy-to-use functionalities put forth by the brand’s signature style.
Final Thoughts
Heyday’s speaker offers outstanding value for the budget-conscious music lover for its price point. With a sturdy and waterproof design, this pocket dynamo can provide remarkable sound in any dorm room or shower setup!
